Christ Church Grammar School’s Chess team have won an incredible 12th consecutive PSA title with their victory at Wesley College yesterday. This period of dominance is unmatched in PSA Sport with the School winning 12 out of the 13 years of the competition. The team won 26 out of the 30 games, lead by Year 12 students Lucas Hogan, Emil Ong, Ee Zy, and Nicholas Tan. The other 3 members of the team are Year 9 students Jeremiah Wang, Andy Wu and Max Pearse, indicating the School’s Chess dynasty is set to continue for years to come.

Chess has been a fixture of the PSA sports calendar for more than a decade and in the wake of the immensely popular Netflix show ‘The Queen’s Gambit’ and the Coronavirus pandemic that has kept many of us at home, chess’ popularity has exploded this year, with websites offering games reaching all-time highs in users. Chess.com, the most popular online chess website, has seen over 11 million new users in the last year alone.
