This week we have been celebrating National Science Week , an annual celebration of science and technology and featuring more than 1000 events around Australia delivered by universities, schools, research institutions, libraries, museums and science centres.

The theme for 2021 is ‘Food’, a subject close to all our hearts. Activities during the week focused on sustainable food futures, and the skills and technologies needed to achieve this important goal. Boys were asked to consider how we eat, what we eat, food sources and why we need to eat.

In celebration of Science Week we have been hosting a number of events and activities including:

  • The very popular Annual Science Quiz – held at lunchtime on Tuesday
  • Raptors and other birds of prey incursion
  • Watermelon challenge – boys raced to wrap elastic bands around a watermelon before it exploded
  • The Preparatory boys engaged in a riveting ‘Great Bug Debate’ and bug tasting in the Library

Head of Science Edward Hogg said “Now more than ever, science plays a critical role in our society, and within Christ Church we aim to help our students increase their awareness and understanding of their environment, and the way they interact within it. Our hands-on, visual and practical approach to the sciences provides a solid platform to facilitate student learning.”
