The Year 10 Environment and Community cadets (ENCOMM) have been hard at work this year, making a real impact through the 2025 Food Rescue Program, proudly run in partnership with SecondBite.

Across three terms, students took part in rescuing and repacking surplus food for Portcare, helping to support local families in need. Each week, around 300 kilograms of fresh produce was saved from going to waste, an incredible total of 7 to 8 tonnes of fresh food rescued throughout the year. In addition to their food rescue efforts, the cadets have helped advance the School’s sustainability goals by composting an average of 10 to 15% of collected materials each day.

Throughout the year, ENCOMM cadets also participated in a wide range of community projects, including volunteering at aged care homes and charity groups, as well as taking part in environmental initiatives such as recycling drives, river foreshore clean-ups, graffiti removal, domestic gardening, bushland restoration, and re-vegetation of local green spaces. These activities have been made possible through our close partnerships with Lake Claremont, City Beach Food Forest, and the Cottesloe, Claremont, and Mosman Park Councils.

We are incredibly proud of the cadets’ enthusiasm, teamwork, and commitment to sustainability and community service. Their efforts have not only supported those in need but also provided meaningful, hands-on learning experiences.
