A group of Year 11 students, together with peers from Methodist Ladies’ College, recently embarked on a Service in Action (SIA) journey to Looma – a remote Indigenous community located approximately 250km east of Broome.

Over four days, the students are volunteering as classroom assistants at Looma Remote Community School. Working closely with local teachers, they are supporting lessons, mentoring younger students, and building meaningful connections through a range of fun and educational activities. The experience has provided an incredible opportunity for students to immerse themselves in the culture and daily life of this tight-knit regional community.

Beyond the classroom, the students have enjoyed football and basketball games with the students, refreshing swims in the Fitzroy River, and crocodile spotting.

A standout moment of the trip was delivering donated football boots to the students of Looma – made possible through the incredible generosity of the Christ Church community and the success of our recent Football Drive. The boots were handed over by our Year 11 students to two of our old boys, Angus Minear (’17) and Jack Cowan (’14), who are now teachers at Looma Remote Community School. In just two weeks, the students will lace up their new boots as they compete in the Kimberley Cup – a valuable opportunity for these young players to grow, play, and chase their football dreams.
