A new fitness test record holders’ sign, recently installed in the Gymnasium, aims to motivate boys and help enhance personal bests.

As part of the Physical Education program at Christ Church, all boys from Years 4 to 12 complete fitness testing twice a year. Head of Health and Physical Education Luke Farmer said the purpose of testing was for boys to have an awareness of their fitness level and to understand the importance of an active lifestyle.

The fitness tests include the 20m shuttle (or beep test), vertical jump, push-ups, 40m sprint and sit and reach. Records for height and arm span are also recorded.

Mr Farmer said fitness testing also helped boys understand the concept of enhancing personal bests. “Boys can reflect on previous levels of fitness and then aim to improve on their results before the re-test,” he said.

Mr Farmer said the new record holders’ sign displayed the current records for each year level with Henry Pennell (Year 12) currently holding the best beep test in the School at 16.2. “We encourage all Christ Church boys to be active and ultimately, healthy fit young men,” Mr Farmer said.
