Christ Church’s recently crowned PSA surfing champions recently competed at Scarborough in the WA Schools State Finals.

Surfers gathered at Scarborough beach to compete against top schools from around the state, including Margaret River, Kalbarri and Geraldton High Schools, whose surfers boast some of the best waves in the world on their doorstep. Captain of Surfing Tom Fox described the conditions on the day, “Big, mushy peaks were on offer, with plenty of sections to find, especially for junior bodyboarder Max Yeo, who pulled off one of the manoeuvres of the day, a massive barrel roll on a closeout section, to applause from the beach”.

Unfortunately, Max and Lennox were unable to claim victory, being beaten in a nail-biting heat by half a point by a pair from Margaret River. Senior bodyboarders Ben Walker and Dan Pocock put in awesome displays but came up short against Margaret River’s bodyboarders, seeing the Christ Church duo bow out in the second round.

Junior surfers Jake Yeo and Leon Butler were the School’s most successful duo, making it to the semi-finals.

Captain Tom Fox was proud of the School for competing with the state’s best, “Congratulations to all boys who helped towards our most successful season in seven years, especially those who competed at the State Finals, and a big thank you to coaches Mrs Fricke and Finn Kelly for all their coaching, organisation, and support”.
