Year 11 students gain insight into life in Marble Bar
Published on: 19 March 2026
This week, eight Year 11 students are on a Service in Action trip to Marble Bar, getting hands-on experience in a regional community. They have been assisting teachers in classrooms, mentoring younger students, and participating in activities ranging from games with local children to exploring key town sites – all while adapting to the region’s famously hot conditions.
Reflecting on their time in the classroom, one Year 11 student shared:
“The primary school kids were really surprisingly quite strong in language skills and general knowledge for their age. It’s great to see how small class sizes allow more one-on-one teaching.”
The trip is giving students valuable firsthand insight into the strengths and challenges of life in a regional community. Through building connections with local residents and seeing the impact of their contributions, they are gaining a deeper understanding of communities beyond their own. Journaling at the end of each day allows them to reflect on their experiences, fostering both personal growth and a stronger sense of service.
The next Service in Action trip, to Nullagine, will depart next week.
