Last Friday, the Year 7 Biology students exchanged the surrounds of their science classroom for the wetland environments of Herdsman Lake.

The excursion was designed to enhance the boys’ learning inside the classroom by providing them a practical understanding of the diverse ecosystem at the largest wetland in Perth’s inner metropolitan area.

This term the boys have been studying macro invertebrates, water quality and birds and throughout the day they conducted various observations and experiments to understand the interconnected relationship between the flora and fauna of the area.

“The boys thoroughly enjoy taking part in fieldwork excursions where they can use their classroom theory for inquiry-based activities,” said Senior School Science teacher Megan Pentony.
